A letter to poetry/Performance Poetry

Dear Poetry,

I have neglected you for another. However, I want to say that I didn't mean for this to happen. But screenwriting has just offered me something that you can't necessarily offer. I hope that in your heart of hearts you can forgive me. You are my first love and will remain my first love. I have come back to you because you give me such passion.

You're great admirer

Alright honestly I don't know why I started to have this idea bout writing a love letter to poetry. It just kinda popped into my head. I wanted to make it more poetic. I wanted it to sound more like a spoken word peice...hence what this post is about.

Well we all know that poetry comes in many forms paper and spoken. A lot of people including myself considered the spoken word form of poetry more like hip hop. I have opened my eyes though and have listened to many of the spoken word poets on the scene and think there is a lot more to it than that. Sure, a basis of the spoke word poetry is hip hop, but that is just one of it's beauties. Unlike other forms of poetry I think performance poetry tells stories. Tells stories of all kinds love, hate, about coffee, about childhood. This is what spoke to me. Learning and listening to these poets I have learned quite a bit about them.

One of the poets that I cam across is a man named Rudy Francisco. He is not a "big" name in the scene but after watching many videos of him on Youtube. I respect and admire his writing and his stories. He did a few performances at what looked like colleges.

Here is a few pieces:

My goal is to write a few performance pieces. I already have a few that could be considered that...hell any poem can be done like that.

I would like to at some point read it on stage. However, I have this tencidedy to be nervous as all hell when I am in front of a large crowd of people. Why am I telling you this? Okay anyway lol. Um I will defeat my fears and read my poetry in some form or another

So that's all for this post....keep looking for more posts about Performance poets I admire. ...
