Marget Atwood
So I have been searching around reading all kinds of poets. To add to my lack of inspiration at the moment. I have really been wanting to find a young up and coming poet. But unfortunately those are hard to come across. However, what I did come across is somebody who is well known in the fiction area as well as the poetry area. Her name is Marget Atwood. I had read her poems here and there before this search and had enjoyed her. But I only recently checked out two collections of hers from the library. I found myself baffled by her poetic genius as I read each everyone of her poems. Now, I have not read her most famous book The Handmaidens Tale however I venture to guess that its just as good as her poetry, and am now intrigued. Her style is very much like mine which is what drew me to her. She speaks in a very conversational tone but still remains poetic. She uses her words very beautifully. I hope to read and own every one of her poetic collections.
listen to this poem called the moment and bask in her poetic beauty (she reads it brilliantly too):
Buddy Wakefield
As I said in a previous post I have been really getting into spoken word. One of the very first spoken word artists I came across is a man named Buddy Wakefield. I had a wonderful chance to see this man read his poems live at a place called Da Poetry Lounge, which specializes in spoken word poetry. I have been there a few times, but only a few times have I come across any spectacular poets. There are some here and there and it makes me proud that there is this moment. However, nothing compared to the time I saw Buddy Wakefield live. He has a certain way of performing his pieces that makes you smile no matter what kind of mood you're in. I am not sure if he has collections out there but he has lots of videos on youtube that I have watched over and over again.
Watch as he performs this piece and tell me that you didn't smile:
I would love to have a chance to read on Da Poetry Lounge stage however I am still too nervous and will probably start reading my poetry at smaller venues. I only wish to find a venue that there are other poets performing so perhaps, there could be a community of poets that can share ideas and feelings. Share their poems.
